Investment Director – Energy & Climate at Swedfund
Lead high-impact energy and climate investments in emerging markets, with a focus on Ukraine, renewable energy and resilient infrastructure at Swedfund.
Do you want to use your investment expertise to drive sustainable growth and support the transition to resilient infrastructure and renewable energy in emerging markets? Swedfund is now seeking an Investment Director to join its Energy & Climate team – a unique opportunity to work with high-impact investments across developing markets, with a particular focus on Ukraine.

About the Role
Swedfund’s Energy & Climate team invests across a broad range of sectors that contribute to sustainable development and climate resilience, including renewable energy, resilient infrastructure and natural capital. As an Investment Director, you will work across the full investment cycle, from origination and structuring through execution and portfolio management.
The role offers broad exposure to Swedfund’s core geographies, instruments and investment structures. Initially, and likely also beyond, a significant focus for this role will be on investments related to Ukraine given Swedfund’s specific investment mandate in that country. The expectation is also that the role will be tilted relatively more to debt investments.
You will work closely with colleagues across investment, legal, sustainability, risk and impact functions, while also engaging extensively with external stakeholders such as sponsors, developers, co-investors, lenders and portfolio companies. The position is based in Stockholm and involves regular travel abroad.
Key Responsibilities
Originate and develop new investment opportunities through proactive market engagement and relationship-building with sponsors, developers, lenders, co-investors and other stakeholders
Lead and take senior responsibility for investments throughout the full transaction lifecycle, including origination, due diligence, structuring, approval, documentation, closing and portfolio management
Structure, negotiate and execute investments across direct debt, equity and intermediated structures, including funds
Drive value creation and monitor risk across existing investments
Lead cross-functional project teams throughout transaction processes, ensuring high-quality execution and effective collaboration across investment, legal, sustainability, risk and impact functions
Contribute to business development initiatives and maintain strong relationships with existing and potential partners
Drive continual growth, knowledge-sharing and insight into sector-related markets and investment developments
Provide guidance, coaching and mentorship to more junior investment colleagues
Your Profile
We are looking for candidates with at least 20 years of relevant investment experience, ideally from a leading development finance institution (DFI) or multilateral finance institution, such as EBRD, EIB or NIB. Candidates with backgrounds in investment banking, private equity, corporate finance, M&A, commercial banking or infrastructure funds are also highly relevant.
You bring a strong track record of transaction execution and investment leadership across the full lifecycle. International transaction experience is highly valued, particularly within renewable energy, infrastructure or emerging markets. Experience with debt investments and structured lending is highly relevant, as is experience with transactions in complex or challenging markets.
You are fluent in English, and Swedish is considered an advantage (as is Ukrainian).
To succeed in this role, you are likely:
Commercially driven and relationship-oriented
Confident in leading complex investment processes and engaging with senior external stakeholders
Analytical, structured and comfortable managing complex transactions
Pro-active and focused on getting things done, to a high degree of quality
A strong communicator with sound judgment and high professional integrity
Motivated by combining financial expertise with measurable development impact
Collaborative, with a demonstrated ability to lead, coach and develop colleagues
What we offer
You will be offered the opportunity to work with sustainable investments in an international environment. At Swedfund, you will become part of a committed and generous culture. We share experiences, support one another, and work together to make a real difference.
Our offices are located in attractive premises in central Stockholm at Drottninggatan 92.
